When to go to Istanbul

By 3H Travel

The Blue Mosque of Istanbul

Spring, autumn, summer or winter: the pros of each season for visiting Istanbul.

Istanbul can be visited all year, but the experience changes a lot with the season. Here are some general pointers: temperatures and prices vary from year to year.

Spring and autumn: the favourite seasons

From April to June and September to November, temperatures are pleasant for walking between districts. Tulips bloom in spring, and autumn brings lovely light over the Bosphorus.

Summer: heat and crowds

In July–August it can get very hot and sights are crowded. Visit early in the morning and take ferry rides late in the day.

Winter: calm and gentler prices

From December to February it is cool and sometimes rainy, but sights are quieter and hotels often cheaper. Pack warm clothes.

Whatever the season, check entry requirements for your nationality before booking.
