Djerba by 4x4 & Guellala pottery
A day in a 4x4 exploring villages, wild beaches and the pottery workshops of Guellala, with a seaside lunch break.

Tunisia
The island of gentleness: fine sandy beaches, whitewashed medinas, crafts and a lagoon visited by pink flamingos.
Djerba is the largest island in North Africa, about 25 km by 20, linked to the mainland by the El Kantara Roman causeway and the Jorf–Ajim ferry. Its mild climate, fine-sand beaches, lime-washed villages and crafts make it a pleasant destination in every season, and the natural starting point for excursions into southern Tunisia. Our agency is based here, in Houmt Souk.
You are already here: Djerba-Zarzis international airport, at Mellita, is about ten kilometres from Houmt Souk and 30 minutes from the tourist zone. Flights link Tunis in an hour, and several European cities directly or by charter depending on the season. By road, allow about 500 km from Tunis via Sfax and Gabès, then the Jorf ferry or the El Kantara causeway. On the island, taxis, louages and car hire make getting around easy; our excursions include hotel pick-up.
May to October for swimming, with July and August as high season. Spring (March-May) and autumn (September-November) are ideal for sightseeing and desert excursions. Winter is mild, quiet and inexpensive, perfect for heritage and food. Flamingos frequent the lagoon mainly from autumn to spring.
