Rome layers nearly three thousand years of history: the Colosseum and the Roman Forum sit alongside basilicas, baroque squares, fountains and the lanes of Trastevere. The Vatican, with St Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, is a city within the city. It is a destination to be lived on foot, ice cream in hand, taking time for the terraces.
